About Fox Point
Fox Point is the southernmost neighborhood of Providence's East Side, bounded by the Providence and Seekonk rivers, Interstate 195, and the College Hill and Wayland neighborhoods. Wickenden Street is its main commercial street.
The city's neighborhood plan describes Fox Point as medium to high density, with smaller lots, short front yards, small side yards and sporadic street trees. Housing is a mix of single-family homes and two- and three-unit houses, and many of the oldest houses in Providence are here, on streets like Sheldon, Transit, Arnold and John. Portuguese, Cape Verdean and Azorean families settled the neighborhood for factory and waterfront work, and founded Our Lady of the Rosary church in 1885.
India Point Park, 18 acres at 225 Portugal Parkway, is the neighborhood's waterfront. A pedestrian bridge, widened in 2008, connects it over I-195 to George M. Cohan Boulevard at East Street. The East Bay Bike Path starts there.

Yard waste pickup in Fox Point (2026)
- Waste Management collects yard waste weekly from April 20 to December 24, 2026.
- Leaves, grass and small yard debris go in paper bags, or in barrels with "Yard Debris Only" stickers.
- Get stickers at DPW, 75 Chapman Street (weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), City Hall Suite 104 (weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) or the DPW Mattress Depot, 700 Allens Ave (Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.).
Small side yards mean a lot of hand work. If your lot has no driveway for a truck, mention on-street parking or a narrow side path when you start a request, since the crew may have to carry bags out by hand.
Snow duties for Fox Point owners
- Property owners must clear snow and ice from the sidewalks, catch basins, fire hydrants and pedestrian ramps next to their property. The city can fine owners who do not (City Ordinance Sections 23-13 to 23-17).
- Snow cannot be blown, shoveled or plowed into the street.
- During a parking ban, no cars may park on the street, including cars with an on-street parking permit. Plan off-street parking ahead of time.
- Report an uncleared sidewalk by calling 3-1-1. If you cannot shovel, ask a neighbor first, or call 2-1-1 for help.
If you own a two- or three-unit house, decide with your tenants who shovels, or line up a shovel crew before the first storm.
