Darlington at a glance
Darlington is on the east side of Pawtucket. Everything east of the Blackstone River here was part of Massachusetts until 1862, and the neighborhood takes its name from a railroad station named for Edwin Darling, according to the Heritage Alliance of Pawtucket.
In the city's 2017 Comprehensive Plan, the Darlington and Pine Crest planning district (District 7) had the most people of any district, 17,697 by the 2009-2013 Census survey.
Housing is a mix. Many single-family Cape Cod and saltbox homes date from the early 1900s, and multi-family homes cluster on main streets like Newport Avenue and Armistice Boulevard.

Slater Memorial Park next door
Slater Memorial Park, with entrances on Newport Avenue and Armistice Boulevard, covers about 200 acres along the Ten Mile River. It has the 1895 Looff Carousel, ten lighted tennis courts and a 2.2 mile trail that runs from the Tomlinson Athletic Complex on Daggett Avenue through the park to the Kimberley Rock Athletic Complex in Rumford.
The city bought the land, then the Daggett farm, in 1894. If your yard backs onto the park or the trees along the river, ask the crew whether the quote covers a second fall pass for late leaves.

Bagging leaves in Darlington this fall
- City pickup ends December 11, 2026, on your regular trash day.
- Brown paper yard waste bags, or a barrel of 33 gallons or less marked "yard waste". No plastic bags, and no mixing with trash.
- Drop-off option: the Grotto Ave. Transfer Station takes 3 paper bags, 3 barrels (32 gallons max) and 3 bundles per visit. Bundles can be no longer than 3 feet and no wider than 12 inches, with no branch over 3 inches thick.
On a multi-family lot, say so when you start a request. Crews price a three-decker with a shared yard differently from a single-family Cape.

Winter on the east side
- Sidewalk snow has to be gone within the first 12 daylight hours after a storm ends. The rule covers the owner, the occupant or anyone in charge of the property, so landlords and tenants should agree on who does it.
- Fines start at $25 and go up to $100 for repeat offenses. Snow cannot be pushed into the street.
- East side lots open during a parking ban include Potter-Burns School (973 Newport Ave.), Goff Middle School (974 Newport Ave.), the Newport and Whittier lot, the Littlefield and Armistice lot, the Slater Park ball field lots and the Tomlinson Field Complex (401 Daggett Ave.).
- Cars must be out of those lots within two hours after the ban ends.
Lining up a plow or shovel crew before the first storm means you are not calling around the morning after it.
